What You Have to Know Before Getting a Tattoo

Everyone nowadays has gone tattoo crazy, from rock stars and celebrity to pretty much any one who wants to be cool and hip and express their personal identity. The reputation of tattoos was just for the working class; criminals and sailors have completely changed. The range of tattoos to choose from has become vastly overwhelming. Designs range from Flowers through to Celtic and tribal tattoo designs. Everyone has found many ways to express themselves within their tattoos. If you are thinking of getting a tattoo there are a few things you will need to know.A tattoo is a puncture wound made in your skin, which is filled with ink. It is penetrating your skin with a needle so there are a few safety precautions that need to be considered from you and the tattoo artist.A tattoo can take sometimes several hours to complete depending on design and the size. So you need to seriously consider the safety aspect. A new tattoo is a wound just like any other cut or wound so there is a risk of infection. The first thing you need to do is make sure you are up to date with your immunizations especially hepatitis and tetanus shots. Make sure you are registered with your doctor and have access to medical care should the tattoo need looking at in the future. It is worth checking with your doctor first to make sure there are not any medical conditions that will stop you getting a tattoo. For example some people suffer from keloids, a keloid is a type of scar, which results in an overgrowth of tissue at the site of a healed skin injury, this will cause some serious problems with having a tattoo and the healing process.Once you have checked these issues out and you are ready to go to the tattoo artist to get inked. At this point you need to check out the tattoo artist. It is very important to make sure the tattoo studio is clean and safe, and that all equipment they use are totally disposable, this includes needles, gloves and masks etc. Everything else must be fully sterilized. Some states, cities, and communities set up standards for tattoo studios, but some do not.You can contact your local health department to find out about the laws in your community. The tattoo Artist procedure:The tattoo artist will first wash his or her hands. The to-be-tattooed area on your body will be fully cleaned and disinfected. The tattoo artist will put on clean, clean gloves and surgical mask. The tattoo artist will go through with you the full sterilization procedure with you.Using the tattoo machine with a sterile, single-use needle attached, and the tattoo artist will draw an outline of the tattoo under your skin. The outline will then be cleaned with antiseptic soap and water.Sterile, thicker needles will be installed on to the tattoo machine, and the tattoo artist will start filling in the design. After again cleaning the area, color will be then injected to add to the tattoo design.A sterile, disposable towel will remove any excess blood. When the tattoo is finished, the tattoo area will be cleaned again and a bandage applied to the exposed tattoo area.If the above process is followed this will reduce the risk of tattoo infection and disease to the tattoo.
